1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/4 cups packed light or dark brown sugar
2 large eggs

1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups semisweet or dark chocolate chips
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

8. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers still soft.
9. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
