1 1/2 cups hot water

For garnish:
2 tablespoons granulated sugar + 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for sprinkling)
Vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking dish or a similar deep dish.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, vanilla, and melted butter; stir until just combined.
Pour batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
Carefully pour hot water over the top—do not stir.
Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is set. The bottom will turn into a gooey, rich sauce.
Let sit for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
