Ingredients
4 cups (800g) frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
1 cup (120g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Β½ cup (115g) crispy cooked bacon, finely crumbled
ΒΌ cup (30g) all-purpose flour
1 large egg, beaten
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Β½ teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Β½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup (120g) pepper jack cheese, cut into small cubes (for stuffing)
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
Prepare the Tater Mixture:
In a large bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, cheddar cheese, bacon, flour, egg, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to form a sticky, cohesive mixture.
Shape and Stuff:
Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the mixture into your hand and flatten it slightly. Place a cube of pepper jack cheese in the center, then wrap and shape the hash brown mixture around it to form an oval bite. Ensure the cheese is completely sealed inside. Repeat with the remaining mixture and cheese cubes.
Fry to Perfection:
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350Β°F (175Β°C). Fry the tater bites in small batches, avoiding overcrowding. Cook for 3β4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the bites, and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.
Serve and Enjoy:
Serve the tater bites hot with dipping sauces like ranch, chipotle mayo, or honey mustard for a fun twist.
