How to Season Your Cast Iron Cookware
Did you know that, if "seasoned" properly, your cast iron cookware will become non-stick? Season your potjies and pans by rubbing them with a very thin layer of cooking oil, then bake them in the oven at 230 °C, upside down, for 1 hour. Turn the oven off and let it cool completely. After using your cast iron pan or potjie, remember to only clean it with a mild abrasive brush or sponge and hot water – no soap! This way, it will retain its non-stick layer and only become better over time.
