🧀 Cheese Naans Recipe 🍞✨
For the Dough:
300 g flour
100 g plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt for more creaminess)
1/2 sachet baking powder (about 5 g)
1 tablespoon olive oil (adds softness)
Lukewarm water (as needed to adjust the consistency of the dough)
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste
For the Filling:
100 g grated Gruyere cheese (or a mixture of cheeses like mozzarella and cheddar)
Optional: 1 clove garlic, minced (for a more intense taste)
Optional: Aromatic herbs (like fresh coriander or parsley, to add flavor)
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Add the yogurt and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Gradually add lukewarm water, a little at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling:
In a bowl, mix the grated cheese with the minced garlic (if using) and any aromatic herbs you desire. Set aside.
Shape the Naans:
After the dough has rested, divide it into equal portions (about 6-8 pieces). Roll each piece into a ball.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a circle or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick. Place a generous amount of the cheese filling in the center of the rolled-out dough.
Seal the Naans:
Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to enclose it completely. Pinch the edges to seal. Gently flatten the filled dough ball with your hands, then roll it out again carefully to avoid spilling the filling.
Cook the Naans:
Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the rolled-out naan in the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. You can brush the naan with a little butter or ghee while cooking for extra flavor.
Serve:
Remove the cheese naan from the skillet and keep warm in a towel. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
Serve warm with your favorite curry, chutney, or yogurt dip!
