🐣 Easter Meringue Nests 🍫
Ingredients:
4 large egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup granulated sugar
Food coloring (optional)
Candies or fresh fruit for filling
Instructions:
Prepare the Egg Whites: Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
Add Sugar Gradually: While continuing to beat the egg whites on medium-high speed, gradually add the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition. Continue beating until the meringue is stiff and glossy.
Divide and Color (Optional): If using food coloring, divide the meringue into separate bowls and tint each portion with a few drops of food coloring. This will create colorful nests.
Shape the Nests: Using a spoon or piping bag, shape the meringue into small nests on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure to leave enough space between each nest to allow for spreading during baking.
Bake the Nests: Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the meringue is dry and slightly golden on the outside. Turn off the oven and let the nests cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar.
Fill and Serve: Once cooled, fill the Easter Meringue Nests with your favorite candies or fresh fruit. You can also dust them with powdered sugar or add a few chocolate shavings for extra decoration.
