Classic British Jam Tarts πŸ“πŸ₯§
A timeless British teatime treat, jam tarts are simple, sweet, and utterly delicious. With crisp, buttery pastry and a glossy, fruity jam filling, they’re perfect for afternoon tea or a nostalgic snack!
πŸ›’ Ingredients:
For the pastry:
πŸ₯š 1 egg yolk
🧈 125g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
🌾 250g plain flour
🍚 50g icing sugar
πŸ₯„ 2 tbsp cold water
For the filling:
πŸ“ 100g strawberry jam
🍊 100g apricot jam
🫐 100g blackcurrant jam
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Method:
1️⃣ Prepare the pastry: In a bowl, rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the icing sugar. Add the egg yolk and water, mixing until a dough forms. Wrap in cling film and chill for 30 minutes.
2️⃣ Roll and cut: Preheat the oven to 180Β°C (fan). Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 3mm thick. Use a round cutter to cut out circles and press them into a 12-hole tart tin.
3️⃣ Add the jam: Spoon 1 tsp of jam into each tart case. Be careful not to overfill, as the jam will bubble up when baking.
4️⃣ Bake: Pop the tray into the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden. Remove and allow to cool in the tin before transferring to a wire rack.
5️⃣ Enjoy! Serve at room temperature with a nice cup of tea. β˜•
