Pesto Pizza with Mushrooms and Red Onions
Ingredients:
1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
1/4 cup pesto sauce (store-bought or homemade)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cup diced red tomatoes
1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven while it preheats.
Prepare the Pizza Dough:
Roll out your pizza dough on a lightly floured surface until it reaches your desired thickness. If using store-bought dough, follow the instructions on the packaging for rolling.
Spread the Pesto Sauce:
Once the dough is rolled out, spread a thin layer of pesto sauce over the surface, leaving about 1 inch from the edges for the crust.
Add the Toppings:
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the pesto sauce. Then, layer the sliced mushrooms, red onion rings, and diced tomatoes on top of the cheese. Season with a pinch of salt and freshly ground pepper.
Bake the Pizza:
Carefully transfer the prepared pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Finish and Serve:
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and brush the crust with a little olive oil for extra flavor and shine. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves. Slice and enjoy your homemade pesto pizza!
Tips:
For a crispier crust, try prebaking the pizza dough for 5 minutes before adding the toppings.
Feel free to add other toppings like olives, arugula, or grilled chicken for variation.
Enjoy your delicious pesto pizza!
