Air Fryer Macaroni and Cheese Recipe
Ingredients (serves 4):
250g short pasta (macaroni or elbow macaroni)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (for gratin)
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Oil spray
Instructions:
1. Boil salted water in a pot and cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add flour and mix well for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Add milk little by little, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until mixture thickens. Stir in cheddar cheese and mustard powder. Stir until the cheese melts and you have a smooth sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
3. Add the cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and mix well.
4. Place the macaroni and cheese in an air fryer-safe dish. Mix the breadcrumbs with the parmesan cheese and sprinkle over the macaroni. Spray lightly with cooking spray for a golden, crispy coating.
5. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 3-5 minutes. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.
6. Let rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve with a fresh salad or your favorite protein.
