Best Homemade Lemon Custard Cake 🍋🍰

Ingredients:
4 large eggs, separated
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon zest
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup whole milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, melted butter, milk, and salt until smooth.
Gradually sift the flour into the mixture, whisking until the batter is well combined.
In a separate clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, about 3-4 minutes.
Gently fold the egg whites into the batter until just combined. Be careful not to deflate the egg whites.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the cake is set in the center. A toothpick should come out clean when inserted into the center.
Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Turn the cake out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
