Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
• For the ground beef and gravy:
• 1 pound ground beef
• 1 onion, diced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 2 cups beef broth
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• 1 teaspoon dried thyme
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Optional: sliced mushrooms or peas for added flavor
• For the mashed potatoes:
• 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/4 cup butter
• Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
• In a large pot, boil the potatoes until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
• Add milk and butter to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and set aside to keep warm.
• In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
• Add the diced onion and minced garlic (and mushrooms if using) to the beef and cook until softened.
• Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir to coat. Cook for 2 minutes.
• Gradually stir in beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
• Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes onto plates. Top with the hearty ground beef and gravy mixture.
