Title: Black Forest Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 1 cup chocolate shavings
- 12 fresh cherries
- 1/4 cup chocolate sprinkles
Preparation Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
4. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
5. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
6. Place one cake layer on a plate. Spread half the cherry pie filling over it. Add a layer of whipped cream.
7. Top with the second cake layer and repeat with remaining cherry filling and whipped cream.
8. Decorate with chocolate shavings, fresh cherries, and chocolate sprinkles. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
