French Onion Beef and Noodles

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

1 teaspoon sugar

1 lb beef stew meat or thinly sliced sirloin

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 cups beef broth

1 can (10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup

1 tablespoon flour (optional, for thickening)

12 oz wide egg noodles

1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese

Fresh parsley for garnish

Directions:

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook, stirring often, until caramelized, about 20–25 minutes. Sprinkle in sugar to help with caramelization.

Push onions to the side and add the beef. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Sear until browned on all sides.

Stir in Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and French onion soup. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix flour with a bit of water and add it now.

Simmer covered for 20 minutes, or until beef is tender.

Meanwhile, cook egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Add the cooked noodles to the beef and onion mixture. Stir to combine.

Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top, cover the pot, and let sit off heat for 2–3 minutes until melted.

Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
