Chocolate Orange Cheesecake Layer Cake 🍊🍫
Ingredients:
For the Chocolate Cake:
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
For the Orange Cheesecake Layer:
2 (8 oz) packages cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 cup sour cream
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
1 tsp orange zest
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Ganache:
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tbsp butter
Instructions:
Make the Chocolate Cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Prepare the Orange Cheesecake Layer:
Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan.
In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
Mix in sour cream, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Pour the mixture into the prepared springform pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the center is set. Cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:
Place chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl.
Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until it begins to simmer. Pour hot cream over the chocolate chips. Let sit for 2-3 minutes, then stir until smooth.
Add butter and mix until glossy. Let cool to room temperature.
Assemble the Cake:
Place one chocolate cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a thin layer of ganache over the top.
Add the orange cheesecake layer on top of the ganache. Spread another thin layer of ganache over the cheesecake.
Top with the second chocolate cake layer. Pour the remaining ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
Notes:
For a more intense orange flavor, increase the amount of orange zest in the cheesecake layer.
Ensure the cake and cheesecake layers are completely cooled before assembling to prevent the ganache from melting.
