📋 Ingredients
For the Cake:
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 cups granulated sugar

For the Cream Cheese Filling:
• 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
• ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
• 2 cups powdered sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Frosting (optional):
• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
• ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 3–4 tbsp milk
• 1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Bake the Cake:
• Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
• In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
• Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
• Carefully stir in hot water or coffee — batter will be thin.
• Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
• Let cool completely.
2. Make the Cream Cheese Filling:
• Beat cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
• Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until fluffy.
3. (Optional) Make the Frosting:
• Beat butter until creamy.
• Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder alternately with milk, beating until smooth.
• Mix in vanilla.
4. Assemble the Cake:
• Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly on top.
• Add the second cake layer.
• Frost the top and sides of the cake if desired.
