KWAREZIMAL - MALTESE LENTEN BISCUITS 🍂🍊🍋☕🍂
A favourite traditional Biscuit enjoyed during the Lent Period. These Biscuits have a slightly crisp exterior and a soft chewy center. The ultimate Maltese Biscuit! 😋

RECIPE - 8 Biscuits
Ingredients 🛒
400g/14oz Ground Almonds
50g/2oz Margarine, melted
350g/12.3oz Sifted Self-Raising Flour
340g/12oz Sugar
2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp Nutmeg
1/4 Tsp Ground Cloves
Juice and zest of 2 Oranges
Zest of 1 Tangerine
1 Tbsp Orange Blossom Water (Ilma Zahar)

Topping:
Golden Syrup or Honey
Roasted Almonds, chopped

Method:
Preheat oven to 180C/350F.
In a large bowl, mix the melted margerine with flour, then add all the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined then add remaining ingredients.
Shape the dough into small logs and place on a baking tray with baking paper, leaving space in between. Do not flatten, they will spread out in the oven on their own.
Bake in oven for about 20 minutes (they should be soft to touch when they come out of the oven).
When cooled brush with golden syrup or honey and top with chopped roasted almonds.
