COTTON CANDY SWIRL CANDY APPLES
Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 6 wooden candy apple sticks
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Food coloring (pink and blue)
- 1 cup cotton candy, for garnish
Directions:
Step 1: Prepare The Apples
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a wooden candy apple stick into the top of each apple, pushing it in about halfway.
Step 2: Make The Candy Coating
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Once dissolved, stop stirring and allow the mixture to boil until it reaches the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C) on a candy thermometer.
Step 3: Add Flavor And Color
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Divide the mixture into two bowls. Add a few drops of pink food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the other, stirring until the desired colors are achieved.
Step 4: Coat The Apples
- Dip each apple into the pink candy coating, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, swirl the blue candy coating over the pink to create a marbled effect. Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to set.
Step 5: Add Cotton Candy
- Once the candy coating has set, gently press cotton candy onto the top of each apple for garnish. Allow the apples to cool completely before serving.
