❄️ Ingredients:
For the Cookies:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Royal Icing:
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
6 tablespoons water (adjust for consistency)
Food coloring (blue, white, green, black, orange)
Decorations:
Miniature sugar trees or tree sprinkles
Tiny edible snowflakes or white sprinkles
Small candy eyes (for snowmen)
Orange candy for snowman noses
🍪 Instructions:
Make the Cookies:
Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Cream Butter and Sugar: Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Gradually mix it into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour to firm it up for easier rolling.
Roll and Cut: Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut the dough into your desired shapes (circles work well for a winter scene).
Bake: Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are just lightly golden. Cool completely before decorating.
Decorate the Cookies:
Prepare Royal Icing: In a bowl, beat together powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth. Divide the icing into portions and color them: white for snow, blue for sky, black for snowman eyes and buttons, green for trees, and orange for noses.
Base Layer: Flood the cookies with blue royal icing to create the winter sky. Let dry completely.
Snowy Scene:
Use white icing to create snow at the bottom of the cookie.
Add small tree decorations using green icing and tiny sugar trees or tree sprinkles.
Pipe a snowman in the center or wherever you like, using black for eyes and buttons, orange for the nose, and extra white for snowman details.
Add Final Touches:
Sprinkle edible snowflakes or white sprinkles for a magical touch.
Let the cookies dry completely, at least 2 hours, before serving or storing.
