Louisiana Voodoo Fries
Ingredients:
For the Fries:
26 ounces frozen French fries (or homemade fries)
For the Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground white pepper (or black pepper)
2 teaspoons ranch seasoning powder (or more to taste)
½ teaspoon cayenne powder, divided
8 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded (about 2 cups)
Instructions:
Prepare the Fries:
Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F.
Arrange the frozen French fries in a single layer on a large rimmed baking sheet (for the oven) or in the air fryer basket. Bake them according to the instructions on the package or the air fryer instructions until crispy and golden brown.
Make the Sauce:
In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat until bubbly.
Whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes, allowing the mixture to become thick and pasty.
Add the Milk:
Gradually whisk in the milk, adding about ½ cup at a time and stirring well between each addition to keep the sauce smooth.
Add salt, white or black pepper, ranch seasoning, and ¼ teaspoon cayenne. Stir to combine.
Lower the heat to medium-low and continue cooking the sauce for about 5 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Stir in the Cheese:
Add the shredded white cheddar cheese into the sauce, stirring gently with a silicone spoon. Cook for 2-3 more minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is creamy and thick. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Voodoo Fries:
Once the fries are cooked and golden brown, transfer them to a serving platter.
Pour the Cajun ranch cheese sauce evenly over the fries.
Sprinkle the remaining ¼ teaspoon cayenne powder over the top for an extra spicy kick.
