Ingredients:
For the Apple Filling:
3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
1 tbsp lemon juice
For the Pastry:
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (store-bought or homemade)
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
For the Topping:
1/4 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Optional Garnish: Chopped pecans, sea salt flakes, or powdered sugar
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice. Cook for 5β7 minutes until apples are softened and caramelized. Let cool slightly.
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rectangles or squares, depending on your preferred serving size.
Spoon a few apple slices onto one half of each pastry square, leaving a border. Fold over and press edges with a fork to seal.
Brush the tops with beaten egg and cut small slits for steam to escape.
Bake for 18β22 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
Drizzle with caramel sauce while warm and top with chopped pecans, sea salt flakes, or a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
