Salisbury Steak with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom & Onion Gravy
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1 egg
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
1 cup onion, sliced
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Start by boiling the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot. Add minced garlic, milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy, then set aside.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and shape into patties.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and onions. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken the gravy, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, allowing them to soak in the gravy for a couple of minutes. Serve the steaks over a generous portion of garlic mashed potatoes, topped with the mushroom and onion gravy.
