Smoky & Delicious: Lentil Jam That Tastes Just Like Bacon, Totally Plant-Based! π₯π
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (200g) cooked brown or green lentils, drained | 200 grams cooked brown or green lentils
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced | 1 large onion

- ΒΌ cup (60ml) maple syrup or agave | 60 milliliters maple syrup or agave
- ΒΌ cup (60ml) apple cider vinegar | 60 milliliters apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari | 30 milliliters soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika | 15 grams smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke | 5 milliliters liquid smoke
- Β½ teaspoon black pepper | 2.5 grams black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil | 30 milliliters olive oil
Directions:
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onion and cook until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
3. Add cooked lentils, maple syrup (or agave), apple cider vinegar, soy sauce (or tamari), smoked paprika, liquid smoke, and black pepper to the skillet.
4. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
5. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture has thickened and jam-like consistency. If it becomes too thick, add a tablespoon or two of water.
6. Remove from heat and let the vegan lentil bacon jam cool slightly.
7. Transfer to a jar or airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
8. Serve vegan lentil bacon jam warm or cold as a spread on toast, crackers, burgers, sandwiches, or as a topping for baked potatoes or vegan cheese boards.
