"This recipe was passed down to my husband from Great-Grandmom Mae Conforti. It’s been a family recipe for generations, way back in Italy.
Ingredients:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil (optional for garnish)
Directions: Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, mixing thoroughly. Stir in sugar, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Lower heat and let sauce simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you like a smoother texture, blend the sauce using an immersion blender. Garnish with fresh basil before serving over cooked pasta. This hearty sauce brings generations of flavor straight from Italy to your table.
