Ingredients:
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
4 slices bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Directions:
Cook the Bacon:
In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the bacon drippings in the pan.
Sauté the Onions and Garlic:
In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the Green Beans:
Stir in the trimmed green beans and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add Broth and Seasonings:
Pour in the chicken broth, add the brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer.
Cook the Green Beans:
Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the green beans are tender and the broth has reduced slightly.
Finish with Bacon:
Stir in the cooked bacon and heat through for another 2-3 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Serve:
Serve warm as a delicious side dish to your favorite meal!
