Ingredients:

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

For the Avocado Sauce:
1 ripe avocado, pitted and scooped out
2 tbsp (30ml) fresh lime juice (or lemon juice)
1-2 tbsp water (as needed for consistency)
1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro or parsley leaves (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
1. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill (outdoor or indoor grill pan) to medium-high heat.
2. Prepare Asparagus: Wash the asparagus spears and pat them dry. Place them in a shallow dish or on a plate. Drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss gently to coat the spears evenly.
3. Grill Asparagus: Place the seasoned asparagus spears directly on the hot grill grates in a single layer (place perpendicular to the grates so they don't fall through). Grill for 3-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender-crisp and lightly charred. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the spears and desired tenderness.
4. Make Avocado Sauce: While the asparagus is grilling (or just before), combine the avocado flesh, lime juice, 1 tablespoon of water, minced garlic (if using), and fresh herbs (if using) in a small blender or food processor. Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Add another tablespoon of water if needed to reach a smooth, sauce-like consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Serve: Remove the grilled asparagus from the grill and arrange on a serving platter. Drizzle generously with the creamy avocado sauce or serve the sauce on the side for dipping. Serve immediately.
