Ingredients:
🍅 Tinned Chopped Tomatoes: 400g
🧄 Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
🧅 Onion: 1 small, finely chopped
🌱 Dried Oregano: 1 tsp
🌿 Dried Basil: 1 tsp
🌶️ Chilli Flakes: 1/4 tsp (optional, for a hint of heat)
🍯 Sugar: 1 tsp (balances acidity)
🧂 Salt: 1/2 tsp (adjust to taste)
🛢️ Olive Oil: 2 tbsp
🍋 Lemon Juice: 1 tsp (optional, for brightness)
Method:
🍳 Cook the Onion and Garlic:
Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
🍅 Add the Tomatoes and Herbs:
Pour in the tinned tomatoes and stir in the oregano, basil, chilli flakes (if using), sugar, and salt.
🔥 Simmer the Sauce:
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat and let it cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
🥄 Blend (Optional):
For a smooth sauce, use a hand blender to puree the mixture to your desired consistency.
🍋 Adjust the Flavours:
Stir in the lemon juice, if using, and adjust the seasoning to taste.
✨ Cool and Use:
Let the sauce cool before spreading it on your pizza base. Any leftovers can be stored in the fridge or freezer.
Tips:
Add a splash of balsamic vinegar for deeper flavour.
