Firework Color in a Jar

Ingredients:

- 1 clear mason jar (16 oz) with tight-fitting lid
- ¾ cup warm water
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil or baby oil (for layering)
- 1 tsp clear school glue or glycerin (for slow movement)
- Assorted liquid food coloring (5–6 colors)
- 1 tsp fine glitter or biodegradable glitter (optional sparkle)

---

Directions:

1. Prep the Base

Pour ¾ cup warm water into the jar.
Stir in 1 tsp clear glue (or glycerin) until fully dissolved—this creates a viscous medium for slow, dramatic color movement.

2. Add Oil Layer

Very slowly pour 2 tbsp oil down the inside of the jar—oil will float to the top, creating a distinct layer.

3. Load the “Fireworks”

Drip 1–2 drops of each food coloring into the oil layer at various spots.
Sprinkle in glitter if desired to mimic starbursts.

4. Seal & Activate

Secure the lid tightly (use hot-glue for quake-proof jars).
To watch the fireworks, shake or tilt the jar sharply: colored droplets will plunge through the oil, fanning out into flower-like bursts.

5. Reset & Replay

Let the jar sit upright—colors will slowly drift back through the water.
Shake again anytime for a fresh show!
