🥧 Quebec-Style Beef Tourtière with Ketchup Dressing 🥧
Ingredients:
For the Tourtière:
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried sage
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup beef broth
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
For the Ketchup Dressing:
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the Filling:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened.
Add the ground beef and ground pork to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
Stir in thyme, sage, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and beef broth. Simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture thickens. If using, stir in the chopped parsley. Remove from heat and let cool.
Assemble the Tourtière:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the meat mixture.
Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal the edges and cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Optional: Brush the top crust with an egg wash (1 beaten egg mixed with 1 tablespoon of water) for a golden finish.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Prepare the Ketchup Dressing:
In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.
Serve:
Serve slices of the tourtière warm with the ketchup dressing on the side for dipping.
