Dolly Parton’s 5-Ingredient Casserole 🍽️
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef (85% or 90% lean)
3 large russet potatoes, sliced into 1/4-inch thick rounds
2 sweet onions, sliced into 1/4-inch thick rings
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
2 medium green bell peppers, diced
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: 1 tablespoon diced butter
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional: 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
Optional: Pepperoncini peppers, for garnish
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking or casserole dish with nonstick spray or butter.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. For extra flavor, you can stir in garlic powder and crushed red pepper at this stage.
Layer the Ingredients:
First Layer: Arrange the sliced potatoes evenly at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Season with salt and pepper, and dot with diced butter if desired.
Second Layer: Spread the cooked ground beef over the potatoes.
Third Layer: Place the sliced onions on top of the beef.
Fourth Layer: Evenly distribute the diced tomatoes over the onions.
Fifth Layer: Scatter the diced green bell peppers over the tomatoes.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours.
After baking, let the casserole rest for about 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with pepperoncini peppers if desired.
