🍁 Maple Brown Sugar Cookies 🍂
Ingredients
For the cookies:
2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp fine sea salt
¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
¼ cup (85g) pure maple syrup (Grade A, not imitation)
1 large egg, room temperature
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
For the maple glaze:
1 cup (120g) powdered sugar, sifted
2–3 tbsp pure maple syrup
¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
Pinch of fine sea salt
Instructions
Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat softened butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth and slightly fluffy.
Add wet ingredients: Beat in maple syrup, egg, and vanilla until fully combined—scrape the bowl as needed. The mixture may look slightly curdled; that’s normal due to the syrup.
Incorporate dry ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture on low speed, mixing just until no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix.
Chill (optional but recommended): For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30–60 minutes. This step helps prevent overspreading.
Scoop and bake: Roll dough into 1½-inch balls (about 2 tbsp each) and place 2 inches apart on prepared sheets. Flatten slightly with the palm of your hand.
Bake: Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden and centers look soft but set. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk sifted powdered sugar, 2 tbsp maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Add more syrup, ½ tsp at a time, until you reach a thick but drizzle-able consistency.
Glaze and serve: Once cookies are completely cool, drizzle or dip the tops in glaze. Allow glaze to set for 15–20 minutes before storing.
