The Answer to yesterday's, Guess the #vintagerecipe by the ingredients is sugar cream pie. This pie is known as a "desperation" pie which is a group of pie recipes from the Great Depression era that use minimal ingredients that a home cook would probably have in her pantry. If you wanted to bring the flavor up, today you could add vanilla or almond extract, or fresh vanilla bean. Maybe a dash of nutmeg. A chocolate pie crust is my secret - recipe in comments. And you could serve it with a dollop of pie filling on top - like cherries - as you would a cheesecake, :)
OLD-FASHIONED SUGAR CREAM PIE
5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
pinch of salt
1 cup white sugar
2 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
1 9 inch single pie crust
dash of ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Mix flour, sugar and salt together. Add the whipping cream and mix thoroughly. Pour batter into one unbaked 9" pie shell. Sprinkle top with cinnamon.
Bake for 45 minutes to 60 minutes or until bubbly all over the top. Store leftover pie in the refrigerator.
