Surf and Turf on a Wooden Platter
Ingredients:
For the Shrimp:
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Fresh lemon wedges, for serving
For the Steak:
2 boneless ribeye or New York strip steaks (about 8 oz each)
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 sprigs fresh rosemary (optional)
2 sprigs fresh thyme (optional)
2 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, smashed
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Shrimp:
Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
Toss the shrimp in the garlic butter mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
Grill the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, until they turn pink and develop a slight char. Remove from the heat and set aside.
2. Cook the Steak:
Preheat a grill or a heavy cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Pat the steaks dry with paper towels and rub both sides with olive oil, salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
Add the steaks to the hot skillet or grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or adjust the time depending on your preferred level of doneness.
During the last 2 minutes of cooking, add the butter, smashed garlic, and herbs (rosemary and thyme) to the pan, and spoon the melted butter over the steaks.
Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing to ensure they stay juicy.
3. Assemble the Surf and Turf:
Arrange the cooked shrimp and steak slices on a wooden platter or board.
Drizzle any remaining garlic butter from the shrimp and steak over the surface for extra flavor.
Add fresh lemon wedges to the platter for a burst of citrus.
4. Serve:
Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
Presentation Tip:
For a beautifully rustic yet modern look, serve the dish on a wooden board with the "BBQ" engraving subtly visible. The contrast of the vibrant golden shrimp, charred steak, and fresh lemon wedges will create a mouthwatering, visually stunning presentation.
Enjoy your indulgent, flavorful surf and turf dish with the perfect balance of grilled shrimp and tender steak!
