Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Frosting
Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably Hershey’s)
2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for extra richness)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for a deeper flavor)
---
For the Chocolate Frosting:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (Hershey’s)
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup whole milk (more if needed)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
---
Instructions:
For the Cake:
1. Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans (or line with parchment paper).
2. Mix dry ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
3. Combine wet ingredients:
In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
4. Add dry ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
5. Add hot water (or coffee):
Slowly add the boiling water (or coffee) to the batter, mixing until smooth. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
6. Bake:
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
7. Cool:
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the Frosting:
1. Prepare the frosting base:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth.
