🍬 Kool-Aid Taffy 🌈
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
½ cup water
1 (0.15 oz) packet unsweetened Kool-Aid powder (any flavor)
½ teaspoon baking soda
Optional: Food coloring (to enhance the color of your chosen Kool-Aid flavor)
Instructions
Prepare Your Workspace:
Lightly grease a baking sheet or a large plate with cooking spray or butter. This will prevent the taffy from sticking as it cools.
Cook the Sugar Mixture:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves. Once dissolved, stop stirring and let the mixture come to a boil. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature—cook until it reaches 250°F–260°F (soft-ball stage) .
Add Flavor and Color:
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the Kool-Aid powder and baking soda. The mixture will bubble up slightly due to the baking soda—this is normal! If desired, add a drop or two of food coloring to intensify the hue of your taffy.
Cool and Stretch:
Pour the hot mixture onto the prepared baking sheet or plate. Allow it to cool just enough so you can handle it safely (about 5–10 minutes). Grease your hands with butter or cooking spray, then begin pulling and stretching the taffy until it becomes light, airy, and slightly firmer. This process may take 10–15 minutes but is key to achieving the perfect texture.
Shape and Cut:
Once stretched, roll the taffy into a long rope and cut it into bite-sized pieces using scissors or a sharp knife. Wrap each piece in wax paper or plastic wrap to keep them fresh.
Store and Enjoy:
Store the wrapped taffy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy these chewy, fruity treats anytime you need a burst of sweetness!
