Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
For the Filling:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
For the Cream Cheese Glaze:
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2-3 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)
Directions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not hot (about 110°F or 45°C). Remove from heat and add the butter, stirring until melted.
Stir in the granulated sugar and let the mixture cool to about 110°F (45°C). Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and eggs.
Mix until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Filling:
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the butter.
3. Roll and Cut:
Carefully roll the dough into a tight log, starting from one long side.
Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the roll into 12-15 equal pieces.
Place the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish or on a lined baking sheet, leaving a bit of space between them.
Cover the rolls with plastic wrap or a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
4. Bake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
5. Prepare the Glaze:
While the rolls are baking, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined. Add milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
6. Finish and Serve:
Once the rolls are done baking, let them cool slightly before drizzling with the cream cheese glaze.
Serve warm and enjoy!
