Grandma’s Butter Pecan Toffee Bars
Ingredients:
For the Crust & Toffee Layer:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups chopped pecans
For the Toffee Glaze:
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Topping:
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans (for garnish)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in flour, salt, and vanilla until a dough forms.
Press dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Sprinkle 1 1/4 cups chopped pecans over the crust. Bake for 18–20 minutes until lightly golden.
Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and butter. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in vanilla.
Pour the hot toffee glaze over the baked crust and return to the oven for 12–15 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes, then spread evenly.
Top with the remaining chopped pecans and gently press them into the chocolate.
Cool completely, then chill for 1 hour before slicing into bars.
