Slow Braised Beef Brisket with Onions 🥩🧅
Ingredients:
3–4 pounds beef brisket
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 large onions, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
¾ cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper to taste
Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Pat the brisket dry and season generously with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme on both sides.
2. In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until well-browned, about 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
3. In the same pot, add sliced onions and sauté for 5–6 minutes until they begin to caramelize. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
4. Stir in beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
5. Return the brisket to the pot, nestling it into the sauce and onions. Spoon some sauce over the top.
6. Cover tightly with a lid or foil and place in the oven. Braise for 3–3½ hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
7. Remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
8. Serve with the onions and spoonfuls of the rich sauce over the top. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Pro tip: Make this a day ahead—brisket gets even better after sitting in the juices overnight.
