Cotton Candy Swirl Candy Apples
Ingredients:
6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
6 wooden candy apple sticks
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon pink gel food coloring
1/4 teaspoon blue gel food coloring
Cotton candy (pink and blue), for garnish
Directions:
Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, removing any wax coating. Insert a wooden stick into the center of each apple.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with cooking spray.
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and vinegar. Stir gently until sugar dissolves.
Insert a candy thermometer and allow the mixture to cook undisturbed until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
Remove from heat and carefully stir in vanilla extract. Divide the mixture into two separate bowls.
Add pink food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the other, stirring gently.
Dip each apple into the pink or blue coating, allowing excess to drip off, then place on the prepared parchment paper to harden.
Once cooled, attach small pieces of cotton candy to the tops for a whimsical effect. Serve immediately and enjoy!
