Star bread #PutokBread
My childhood favorite bread in the Philippines. Great with coffee or hot cocoa.
Recipe:
1 tsp yeast
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp or pinch of baking powder
3/4 cup warm milk
1/2 tsp vinegar
3 and 1/2 cups bread flour
1 egg
*eggwash for brushing and sprinkle of sugar on top
Steps:
In a bowl, add sugar and yeast. Then, add warm milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Add vinegar, 1 egg, melted butter, salt, mix. Add 1/8 tsp baking powder, flour 1 cup at a time. Mix and kneed for 5-7 minutes till smooth. Cover with plastic or towel in a warm place for 1 hr ( double the size).
Divide the dough into 16 to 18 pieces. Form it like a ball. Using a scissor, slice the top like an x- shape(cross-shape), let it rest and rise for 30 minutes.
Brush with eggwash and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 335 F for 15-18 minutes till lightly browned. Served warm or eat later. 😊😁Enjoy.
