Patty Melt with Secret Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Patty Melt:
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
8 slices of rye bread
8 slices of Swiss cheese
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter, divided
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Secret Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon pickle relish
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions:
Prepare the Onions:
Heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes, until caramelized. Remove and set aside.
Cook the Beef Patties:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into oval patties.
Heat the remaining olive oil in the skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired doneness. Remove and set aside.
Assemble the Sandwiches:
Spread the secret sauce on one side of each slice of rye bread.
Layer each sandwich with a slice of Swiss cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese. Top with another slice of bread, sauce side down.
Grill the Patty Melts:
Heat the remaining butter in a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Serve:
Slice in half and serve immediately, with extra secret sauce on the side for dipping.
