1 kg (about 2 lb) Granny Smith apples, unpeeled weight
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Β½ cup granulated sugar (or light brown sugar)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (or water)
Β½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Crumble Topping

1 cup rolled oats (quick or traditional)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup loosely packed light brown sugar (or granulated sugar)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Β½ teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of fine salt
125 g (Β½ cup) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F) for conventional or fan settings.
Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and dice into 1.5 cm (Β½-inch) cubes.
Make the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until evenly coated, then transfer to a 1.5-liter (1.5-quart) ovenproof baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Prepare the topping: In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture resembles damp, clumpy sand. Use your fingers to break it into small, uneven clusters.
Assemble: Scatter the topping evenly over the apple layerβ€”don’t press it down.
Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until the topping is deep golden brown and the filling is bubbling at the edges.
Rest for 10 minutes after removing from the oven (loosely tent with foil if needed). This helps the filling thicken slightly.
Serve warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
