Homemade Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes
Ingredients
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 packet Kool-Aid (your choice of flavor)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Food coloring (optional, for vibrant colors)
Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
Prepare your work area: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
Heat the sugar mixture: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Boil to the right temperature: Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer. Do not stir while it boils.
Add flavor & color: Once the mixture reaches the right temperature, remove from heat. Stir in the Kool-Aid powder, vanilla extract, and food coloring if desired.
Shape the licorice: Pour the hot candy onto a greased silicone mat or parchment paper. Let it cool slightly until it's safe to handle but still flexible.
Stretch & twist: Once the candy is cool enough, pull and twist it into ropes. Work quickly before it hardens. For multi-color twists, roll different colors into thin ropes and twist them together.
Let it set: Place the licorice ropes on parchment paper and allow them to fully harden for 30-60 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
Enjoy: Store in an airtight container or share these fruity, chewy treats with friends.
