Mason Jar Aquarium Craft : Colourful, Creative, Calming & the Perfect Under-the-Sea DIY for Kids!

Supplies Needed:
(Makes 1 mason jar aquarium — repeat as needed)

- 1 clear mason jar with lid (pint or quart size)
- Blue food colouring or watercolour paint
- Water (filtered or distilled preferred)
- Glycerin (optional – adds thickness to water for slower glitter movement)
- Small plastic aquarium figurines (fish, turtles, sharks, etc.)
- Plastic plants or aquarium decor
- Aquarium gravel or coloured pebbles
- Glitter or iridescent confetti (optional)
- Hot glue gun (to secure decorations if desired)

---

Directions:

Step 1: Create the Ocean Base
1. Fill the bottom of your clean, dry mason jar with coloured gravel or aquarium pebbles (about 1 inch deep).
2. Add mini plastic sea creatures, plants, or coral decorations.

---

Step 2: Add Water & Colour
1. In a measuring cup, mix water with a drop or two of blue food colouring until light aqua or ocean blue.
2. Optional: Add 1–2 teaspoons of glycerin to thicken the water and make glitter float slowly.

---

Step 3: Pour & Decorate
1. Carefully pour the coloured water into the mason jar, filling to about 1 inch from the top.
2. Add a pinch of glitter or confetti for a magical shimmer effect.

---

Step 4: Seal the Jar
1. Optional: Use a hot glue gun to seal the lid to prevent spills (especially for younger children).
2. Tighten the lid securely. Flip gently to admire your undersea scene!

---

Step 5: Display
1. Set the aquarium on a sunny windowsill or shelf for a calming visual.
2. Shake gently for glitter movement or simply admire the colourful seascape.
