Homemade Wonton Soup
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 pound ground chicken or ground shrimp (or a mix of both)
2 green onions, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
20-25 wonton wrappers
For the Soup:
6 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 cup baby bok choy, chopped
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
Directions:
Make the Wontons:
In a bowl, mix the ground chicken or shrimp with green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic powder, and white pepper until well combined.
Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of filling into the center.
Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it in half diagonally to form a triangle, and press the edges to seal. Bring the two opposite corners of the triangle together and press to seal again. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
Make the Soup:
In a large pot, heat the chicken broth over medium-high heat. Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a gentle boil.
Add the bok choy and mushrooms (if using) to the pot. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
Carefully add the wontons to the soup one at a time to prevent sticking. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until the wontons float to the top and the filling is fully cooked.
Taste and adjust seasoning with additional soy sauce if needed.
Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with sliced green onions.
