Crispy Onion Rings

Ingredients:

1 cup milk
1 Tbsp white vinegar
½ cup sour cream
1 large sweet or yellow onion, thickly sliced into ½-inch thick rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ Tbsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
Oil for frying (canola or vegetable oil)
Directions:
Step 1: Heat the Oil
Pour 1 inch of oil into a Dutch oven or deep fryer and heat to 375°F (190°C) over medium heat.
Step 2: Make the Buttermilk Mixture
In a medium bowl, whisk together milk and vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes to create a buttermilk substitute.
Whisk in sour cream until the mixture is smooth.
Step 3: Prepare the Dry Coating
In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Step 4: Coat the Onion Rings
Separate the onion slices into individual rings.
Dip each onion ring into the milk mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
Dredge the coated onion ring in the flour mixture, pressing lightly for even coverage.
Repeat the dipping process one more time for a double coating to achieve extra crispiness.
Place the battered onion rings on a plate while finishing the rest.
Step 5: Fry the Onion Rings
Fry 3-4 onion rings at a time in the hot oil for about 3 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
Transfer the fried onion rings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch, spicy mayo, or ketchup.
Servings: 4-6

Enjoy these crispy homemade onion rings as a side dish or a delicious snack!
