🌼🍞 Deliciously Soft: Easy Recipe for Turmeric & Gram Flour Flatbread
ingredients:
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan) (100 grams)
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin powder
- ¼ teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- ¾ cup warm water (180 ml)
directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the chickpea flour, turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt.
2. Add the olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix well with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Gradually add the warm water, a little at a time, while mixing to form a soft and smooth dough. The dough should not be sticky.
4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes. This will help the chickpea flour absorb the water and make the flatbreads softer.
5. After resting, divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a thin, round flatbread. You can use a rolling pin and apply gentle pressure to spread the dough evenly.
7. Heat a flat griddle or tawa over medium heat. Once hot, place one rolled flatbread on the griddle.
8. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until small bubbles start to appear and the flatbread lightly browns. You can gently press down the edges with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
9. Remove the cooked flatbread from the griddle and repeat with the remaining dough balls.
10. Serve the soft turmeric and chickpea flour flatbreads warm with your favorite curries, dips, or vegetables.
