Glazed Donut Sticks with Salted Caramel Dip
Ingredients:
For the Donut Sticks:
1 package (16.3 ounces) refrigerated yeast-raised donut dough
Vegetable oil, for frying
1 cup powdered sugar
2-4 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Salted Caramel Dip:
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Make the Donut Sticks:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet. If using a baking sheet, preheat to 350F (175C).
2. Unroll the donut dough and cut it into 1-inch thick sticks.
3. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. The oil is ready when a small piece of dough dropped in sizzles immediately.
4. Fry the donut sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place them on the prepared baking sheet to cool slightly.
5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. The consistency should be pourable but not too runny; add more milk if needed.
6. Dip the cooled donut sticks into the glaze, coating them evenly. Place them back on the baking sheet to allow the glaze to set.
Make the Salted Caramel Dip:
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Do not stir.
2. Cook, swirling the pan occasionally, until the sugar melts and turns a deep amber color. This takes about 5-7 minutes and requires careful attention. Do not let it burn.
3. Carefully pour in the heavy cream (it will bubble up). Whisk constantly until smooth.
4. Remove from heat and stir in the butter, sea salt, and vanilla extract until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
5. Let the caramel cool slightly before serving.
Serve the glazed donut sticks warm with the salted caramel dip for dipping.
