Kentucky Butter Cake
Ingredients
For the Cake:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup buttermilk (room temp)
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 large eggs
For the Butter Glaze:
¾ cup granulated sugar
⅓ cup unsalted butter
3 tbsp water
2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan very well (this cake sticks easily).
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
Add wet ingredients: Beat in softened butter, buttermilk, vanilla, and eggs. Mix until smooth (about 2–3 minutes).
Bake: Pour batter into the Bundt pan. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Make the glaze: In a small saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and water. Cook over low heat just until butter is melted and sugar dissolves (don’t boil). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Soak the cake: While the cake is still warm in the pan, poke holes all over it with a skewer or fork. Slowly pour the warm glaze over the cake, letting it soak in.
Cool & Serve: Allow cake to cool completely in the pan before turning it out. The glaze forms a sweet crust on the outside while keeping the inside buttery and moist.
