A rich, creamy fusion of moist chocolate cake and smooth cheesecake β layered into one show-stopping dessert.
π§ Ingredients
For the chocolate cake (2 or 3 layers):
β’ 200g (1 Β½ cups) all-purpose flour
β’ 75g (β
cup) unsweetened cocoa powder
β’ 1 Β½ tsp baking powder
β’ 1 Β½ tsp baking soda
β’ Β½ tsp salt
β’ 250g (1 ΒΌ cups) granulated sugar
β’ 2 large eggs
β’ 240ml (1 cup) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
β’ 120ml (Β½ cup) vegetable oil
β’ 1 tsp vanilla extract
β’ 240ml (1 cup) hot coffee or hot water
For the cheesecake layer:
β’ 450g (16 oz) cream cheese, room temp
β’ 100g (Β½ cup) granulated sugar
β’ 2 large eggs
β’ 1 tsp vanilla extract
β’ 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
β’ 120ml (Β½ cup) sour cream or plain yogurt
For the chocolate ganache frosting:
β’ 300g (10 oz) dark chocolate, chopped
β’ 240ml (1 cup) heavy cream
β’ 2 tbsp butter (for shine, optional)
Optional toppings:
β’ Chocolate shavings or curls
β’ Cocoa powder or powdered sugar for dusting
β’ Berries or gold leaf for decoration
π©βπ³ Instructions
1. Make the cheesecake layer (first, so it can chill):
1 Preheat oven to 160Β°C (320Β°F). Line and grease an 8-inch (20 cm) springform pan.
2 In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
3 Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla, flour, and sour cream.
4 Pour into the pan and bake for 40β45 minutes, or until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
5 Let cool at room temperature, then chill in the fridge for at least 3 hours or overnight.
2. Make the chocolate cake layers:
1 Preheat oven to 175Β°C (350Β°F). Grease and line two or three 8-inch (20 cm) cake pans.
2 In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3 In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla.
4 Combine wet and dry ingredients, then add hot coffee/water. Mix until smooth.
5 Divide into pans and bake for 25β30 minutes. Cool completely.
3. Make the chocolate ganache frosting:
1 Heat cream until just simmering, then pour over chopped chocolate.
2 Let sit 2β3 minutes, then stir until smooth. Add butter for extra shine.
3 Let cool until thick but spreadable.
4. Assemble the cake:
1 Place one chocolate cake layer on a plate.
2 Add a layer of ganache, then gently place the chilled cheesecake layer on top.
3 Add the second (or third) chocolate cake layer.
4 Frost the top and sides with ganache. Smooth or create texture as desired.
5. Decorate & Chill:
Top with chocolate curls, dust with cocoa or powdered sugar, or decorate with berries.οΏ½Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing for clean layers.
