Caramel Frosting Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
2 to 3 cups powdered sugar (as needed for consistency)
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Directions:
Melt Butter and Brown Sugar: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. This process takes a few minutes—be sure to keep the heat low to avoid burning.
Add Milk: Once the sugar is fully dissolved, slowly pour in the milk while stirring continuously. Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Boil the Mixture: Let the mixture boil for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. This step helps thicken the mixture to the right consistency for frosting.
Cool Slightly: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the caramel mixture cool for a few minutes. It should be warm but not too hot when adding the powdered sugar.
Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually mix in the powdered sugar, starting with 2 cups. Stir well after each addition, using a whisk or an electric mixer for a smooth consistency. Add more powdered sugar as needed to reach your desired thickness and spreadability.
Add Vanilla (Optional): Stir in the vanilla extract for enhanced flavor.
Use Immediately: Once the frosting has reached the right consistency, spread it immediately on your cake or cupcakes, as it will thicken as it cools.
Enjoy!
